With less than two full business days left before his $200,000 Powerball ticket was set to expire, Ramin Farro of Winterville claimed a prize he hadn’t even realized he’d won for the past six months. Farro bought a Powerball ticket for the July 9 drawing when he was visiting a friend of his in Greensboro. He says he plays occasionally, but put the ticket away on his dresser at home and quickly forgot about it.

On a whim, Tasheen Isler-Floyd of Knightdale decided to buy one “Jingle Big Ol’ Bucks” ticket. She’d never purchased this $5 instant scratch-off ticket before, but her spur of the moment decision paid off. When she scratched off the ticket, it revealed the top prize of $100,000!

Ten coworkers from IBM and OCS got an exciting surprise this morning when they realized that their Powerball ticket for last night’s drawing matched all five white balls and was worth $200,000. The coworkers, who have only been playing Powerball together for two months, bought their ticket for the Dec. 17 Powerball drawing at Cruizers # 20 on Sedwick Road in Durham.
